2020 grad with offer to join as BL lit associate. Don't want to leave anything on table. Anything I can/should negotiate? Outside of NYC.

Why is it assumed PMs are responsible for scheduling all meetings and taking notes? When did this happen? I was responsible for providing a recap of meetings in the sense of next steps, not in depth notes on the conversation. As for scheduling meetings, I was responsible for scheduling the milestone meetings (kick offs, internal reviews, post mortems, status meetings that I led), I did not schedule the team reviews (CD reviews with ADs/CWs), client meetings, etc. Comments?

Anyone have any partners that successfully drive leads? Particularly for an insurance client. We’ve been trying for a while but we can never get people who land on site to actually fill out a lead form

Offer help: top BB, cpm role as Sr assoc vs. BD/IR VP at low tier PE platform. Assume comp is = and products are comparable. Bb role doing An/Asso wrk, but fast track to VP if perform. Sweaty @ times. Building internal reach & w/clients. 2nd: highly conc LP base, but $7B+ AUM. OK inv performance, hired new Head of sales. Sr. is prob firing existing underperformer. As jr vp, doing work below title w/proj mgmt & client work. Both teams are lean. 5+ YOE and brand names already.

I'm at a smaller MM bank. My original goal was to start here and hustle through into a BB, but I wasn't expecting to really like the people (my team, my direct seniors). I think the work we do probably wouldn't differ a crazy amount (we close deals, just smaller of course) and I'm wondering if I really have a reason to try to move into a bigger bank.

I just realised that all the women over 50 in my practice have been "counseled out" (including me) or put on a PIP this year.

Already spoke with a partner who wanted something done this morning for him to review and then we discuss again. Sent it to him about 4 hours ago. Should take him half an hour to review max. At what point can I check in with him to see when we can catch up so I’m not waiting in the office all day?

When I’m in the office, the partner likes to talk. These talks usually last almost an hour. We should be allowed to bill this time to the partners.

Is your firm treating 12/26 and 12/27 as firm holiday since the 24th and the 25th are during the weekend this year? Of course client demands would dictate whether people will be working, but curious what the official policy is. For what it’s worth, my firm treated the day after thanksgiving as holiday and I didn’t have to work for the whole day.

I get the impression that many are biglaw haters. With some, any attempt at being service minded and asking "have you thought about X, we can help" makes them whine about scope and costs.

One GC I worked with even had on their resume (OP wanted resumes of key employees) as one of their skills "maximizing value of internal and external legal advice while minimizing cost"

Can I leave my biglaw job 3 months before my COA clerkship? Not sure if it will look bad or like I have a gap in my resume. I’m going on 2 years at my firm and I can’t stand it. I’m burned out and the partners I work for told me not to take a vacation this year because of my upcoming clerkship. I have ALREADY billed 2,200 hours this year. I’m absolutely not coming back to this firm post-clerkship.

I started in big law M&A 8 months ago and I’m super miserable. I don’t love the work or the stress/anxiety that comes with deal work. I also feel like I’m not picking up on it as fast as my peers/able to juggle as many deals at once as the firm would like. I’m thinking about making a switch to in house work, preferably commercial contact work. Seems like the hours and stress would be more manageable in that type of role. Any advice or insight?

Is it a fail of character leaving biglaw? I want to leave, but despite the constant stress and suffering, I can’t avoid feeling like it’s my fault or that maybe I’m over exaggerating how I feel. All my colleagues feel ridiculously happy, I’m the grinch one that’s never enjoying the grind (but the grind is hard and competitive, very competitive) :( any thoughts? Is there future after quitting biglaw so young?
