I just realised that all the women over 50 in my practice have been "counseled out" (including me) or put on a PIP this year.

What?? I'm so sorry to hear that. Might be worth connecting with others to see other trends besides age to support age discrimination filing.
On a related note, read an article LinkedIn or ladders this past week that discussed reasons companies aren't gung-ho about hiring older workers -over 50- and some of the reasons was lack of motivation, not keeping with technology, lack of business knowledge. I think most of those reasons are BS because at any given point regardless of our age, one of those reasons will apply.

You are correct - I have worked with some 20-somethings (of all genders) with low motivation and lack of business knowledge. Run into a few who have said this whole work thing is not how they want to spend their 20s and 30s. 😂

This is something I have been seeing a lot of lately, and it has me real worried. What exactly is counseled out?

like

Ageism is real here Op — very scary and pushed under the rug

like

That's bizarre. We have plenty of over 50s, one that should have been counseled out but wasn't.

I'm sorry you were. Hope you find something else soon.

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Working from home has only made it 100 times worse because now I know there are other more interesting things to be distracted by all around me. What do you do to hold focus during working hours? What will get me to be able to work for longer than 35 minutes without getting distracted?

Litigators—how many different cases are you on?

Been feeling spread too thin lately but I don’t know whats typical. Curious what others do. And would you mind sharing whether you’re a junior, midlevel, partner, etc??

I realize sheer number of cases doesn’t tell the whole story… obviously you can be buried on one massive case. I’m finding it hard to jump back and forth between everything I have going on right now, though, but I don’t know if the answer is to just deal with it.

Additional Posts in Over 50 in Consulting

So my brother doesn't talk to me for 6 months.   (I had offered my lake house guest space to my cousin who said yes instead of my brother who didn't know if he could come nor when he might know if he could come, how unfair of me).

On Thanksgiving day mom arrives and tells me that brother might come by in an hour.  He had ignored my invite weeks ago.  (Uh ok, sure).

At what point does it not make sense to buy/ build a bigger home? My husband dislikes our house immensely (was his with former wife) and wants to move.
