I always have mixed feelings about peer reviews; sometimes it’s great to get honest feedback from people you actually work with, other times it feels awkward or forced. In your experience, do peer reviews actually help you grow, or do they just add extra pressure?

I know what you mean — peer reviews can be a double-edged sword. When feedback is thoughtful, I walk away with something useful to improve. But sometimes it feels like people are just ticking boxes, which adds pressure without value. Do you find they’re more helpful in written form or face-to-face?

I think I prefer face to face, as daunting as they are I figure I can tell someone’s tone better in person

I’ve found peer reviews only really help when there’s a culture of honesty without fear. If people just write safe, generic feedback, it adds no value. But when trust is there, it can actually shape real growth.

Agreed, if I trust the person and know they genuinely want me to improve I find it much more useful

Greetings from Madison, Wisconsin. I'm a reporter with more than 32 years of experience and I feel that, lately, local television news has been kind of dead, but I am pleased to fight for it from my local newspaper. Locals love to see someone from their own town succeeding or finding out something inspiring.

I am a firm believer that this will not change for a long time, local TV will continue to live as long as we stand for it.
