I always wondered why you need to be "sponsored" by a FINRA member employer in order to take pretty much most of the qualifying, top-up exams like the Series 7 and beyond. There are some exceptions, but why can't you just take and pass any test in the capacity in which you wish to work (as well as your education and experience), and have them already on your resume?

How it’s been explained to me is that those are less like certs you will stockpile, and more like getting permission to do some specific things. It also makes somebody else liable for what you are doing.

They are actually quite easy to pass and it by no means makes you an expert. I had a series 6, 63 + life and health and barely knew anything but my firm paid for me to get them and never use them essentially, just to be able to have super high level conversations and make a pass off to someone more senior.

They use to actually. But I'm not sure why that changed

Bona fide?

My parents are visiting this week and mom and I made dinner tonight. Salmon is seasoned with Trader Joe’s ajika (a Georgian spice blend) and we just roasted the broccoli. The standout is the mejadara. It’s spiced rice and lentils with fried onions and is popular throughout the Middle East. We used the recipe from Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi’s cookbook, Jerusalem.

Looking for tips from seniors. I'm at A1 level at a litigation firm, stepping out of the deer-in-headlights phase. With the Partners assigning work to me in teams of 2-3, there's potential for growth. But with the sheer amount and depth of work on each case it's challenging to take on a more "adult" role. I often find myself in a more assistive role, either by my choice or the Partners'.
How can I accelerate my progress? What are Partners' and Seniors' expectations from year one associates?
