I am a fifth-year at a corporate boutique earning $350K all-in. The work-life balance is very good; almost never had to work weekends in the past five years. I’ve started building a small book and think I could get to $500k -$750k range in the next 5 years, though growth beyond that may be limited. I’m being approached by BigLaw and wondering if I’m leaving money or growth on the table. I’m concerned about lifestyle trade-offs but also feel my learning curve at the firm has plateaued.

Not to be a dick but a $750k book isn't something that most large firms would be excited about so staying at the botique may make more sense.

A2 - Most true BigLaw firms will want at least $3M in portables for lateral partners. Some firms outside of the AmLaw 50 will consider between $800K and $1M for the right practices. $750K is a solid target to lateral as a partner into a mid-law or regional firm. There are always exceptions and outliers, of course.

Where is this place? Every corporate boutique I’ve ever talked to stressed that it wasn’t a lifestyle place and scared me away.

Yes you’re leaving money in the table, but sounds worth it.

How were you approached by Biglaw? Are you talking about a partner asking or a Biglaw recruiter?

Please stay where you are. It’s not worth it to leave.

I know I have it pretty good, but looking for genuine advice on whether its worth it to go. I have no desire to ever go in-house FWIW.

I’d say stay put. My income partners don’t make $750k. Your situation sounds better than going inhouse. You won’t make more than big law equity partners but $750k is a lot of money to barely work weekends.

He is not making K750 lol

Are y’all hiring?! I’d leave in-house for this 😅.

Great lifestyle, great work environment, and very respectable salary? I wouldn't kick the gift horse here.

Looking to get into SaaS sales but my experience is in construction and fine furniture (I was a sales manager and was able to lead my team of 4 people to consistently hit 450k monthly targets). I did that for almost 2 years before making the switch. I miss sales, though. Does anyone have any connections to companies looking? I have also considered a sales analyst role considering that I am moderately versed in Salesforce and have worked both the customer facing and sales generating side. TIA!

I’m have a new theory about why juniors always feel like idiots and wanted to see if anyone else thinks this makes sense. I’m a third year, and am the most junior person all of my teams (generally me, a senior or two, and a partner or two), and I always feel like I’m messing something up. Is this just because I never get to work with other juniors and don’t see the mistakes they make, and that it’s relatively normal? And FWIW I went to HYS and I’ve had a clerkship so it’s not like I’m not smart

Got an email from someone who is supposedly wanting to hire my firm, but a few things are giving me pause: 1) I’m a rising third year, so idk why they are emailing me, 2) it just says “dear attorney” then the short message, not my name (though practice group is correct), 3) it is from a gmail email address, not the company. So… do you think this is real? I plan to forward it to a partner, but should I first send to IT to see if it’s even real? Just seems weird to me.
