Not ideal but can you bring them to the work trip with you and hire a nanny service there? Or find a drop in daycare in Detroit when you’re in training?
Looks like taking them with me is the only option. Need to figure out childcare. Relieved to know a lot of people do it this way.
Single parent here too and I either bring the kid and a nanny or friend with me which is expensive, or use the bright horizons back up care benefit I have at work. There’s no easy way to make it work.

I feel this so hard with no family myself, I wish you could drop kiddo by me (my son is just 3yo). I desperately wish I had family or friends I could trust because I feel so trapped and it’s so lonely and sad. Just sending hugs.

Urgh. I’m sorry. I definitely think bringing them on the trip is the best option especially because it’s a week long. And that would be expensive and emotionally difficult to leave them with a non family member unless you have close friends and can do a few days with them & a few days with a sitter. Sitter wise, single parents in my group (I’m a SMBC) use daycare staff since obviously they know the kids very well. If you’re an SMBC you can ask the FB page for drop off daycares in Detroit. Also maybe ask HR. Maybe they have Detroit based parenting resources.
Take kid along and temp daycare there
Take kid along and baby sitter there
Lookup bright horizon backup care, may be a benefit your employer provides
Drop off with a close friend, preferably one with kids - but three days away is rough - any extended family anywhere in the us ? If yes plan a vacation before + after and drop off with family and pickup
Unfortunately not. But that would have been great!
But Detroit is close(er) to Toronto and may be I can make that happen. Thanks!
Does your company offer bright horizons or similar benefit for these temp day care needs? Or post in your network so you can find someone in the Detroit area that isnt a total stranger
My kiddo’s dad’s company does offer Bright Horizon services.
I don’t know if that is still an option, can try. Thanks!

Can you bring a friend or nanny/sitter with you on the trip? That way, you can attend meetings while your child is being cared for by someone they already know. I would also check with others who will be attending the training to see what they're doing. Will you be staying in a hotel that has childcare services? Maybe the company could arrange something if there are a few of you with children who need daycare.
Thanks, did know know hotels had day care services too. Will look into it.
I would definitely bring them with you and try for a nanny service there. Have you tried the “Helpr” app? That may be a good option for just a week period
I take the kids with me a couple times a year on work trips – we use bright horizons drop in while I am there.
Honestly, I have had to fly family or friends out to help with my kiddos here at home or while on trips. I have even used the work issued care.com backup for help. The Y is a great option.
I’m sorry you have to face the challenges. I also had the same struggles in many years, what I did is the followings -
1. Local support - I have a very close Mom friend who is also a single parent to help take care of my girls for 3 days when I’m gone on a business trip, her bays are in the same school with my girls;
2. I don’t have family support either, but I have some really close friends that I made over the years, I had my BFF (who was my part-time nanny) to take care of the girls when I was gone on a 7-day business trip, of course paid her very well that I believe my trust in her is priceless, although it is very expensive;
3. I’ve used care.com and bright horizons for urgent or last minute needs, they are ok to me as I have a hard time trusting strangers but I had no other options.
Can you fly in family or friends to stay in your house while you are away?
