I don't know who taught you to blindly apply to companies - that's you against an AI algorithm. There's not a trick to get companies who have never heard of you to reach out to you. Focus your time on networking. Speak to everyone you can in all walks of life - friends, family, people at church (or whatever do you outside work), former classmates, co-workers, teammates (sports/activities). Look at where your network works, ask for casual conversations and introductions even if there are no openings at their companies. Before you speak to anyone, make sure your differentiation and value story is on point. What will be different in a company if they hire you? Will will be missing if they don't? Or if you came on board and then left? Do you have a skill or teachable point of view that is marketable? This whole process of cold applying doesn't work, yet people keep doing it and expecting different results. Some say it's a numbers game. Apply that same logic to leveraging your network.
All my interviews and eventual job offers have come from blind applying.
Networking has done absolutely zero for me.
I have never wanted a JOB. 1099 is the way to go. I'm psychologically unemployable...are you?
I only got more interviews when started including highly tailored cover letters for each position, highlighting my skills and results based on the pain points for the hiring manager. Include as many keywords from the job description and how they translate to your previous experience and what you can do for the employer in the future. Sometimes hiring managers will post the job on LinkedIn and share exactly what they are looking for. Just sprinkle in those keywords and how you meet those requirements in your resume and cover letter.
Cover letters are a waste of time. My resume is more of a 70% traditional resume format and 30% cover letter in overall appearance, already pre-written and not being redone each time. It goes 3 pages. It works. It gets attention. It saves time.
This is the current job market - and this has been this way since 2017/2018? You're simply going to have to apply to as many damn jobs as you can each and every day and hope the odds go in your favor.
Be mentally and financially prepared to hit 1000s of job applications before you find something.
No matter what anyone says - any colleague, friend, career coach, job hunting site ....again, no matter what they say or try to sell you - this is the reality.
My success rate is very low, especially with AI scanning resumes. Look into keywords for that and try to match the job description
Thanks
It takes a lot of work, but I have done your requirements, my qualifications in a couple letters, so they don’t even have to figure out where I fit into the mix.
Job market is incredibly tough. Referrals can be a helpful way in places.
Analyst you are right which makes it tough when you are starting out.
