I am considering a career redirection. I am currently a lab scientist and with the current volatility of the job market, I have been considering other options. One is getting my CAPM Certification to pursue a PMP Certification in the future.

Those of you who have made this career shift or something similar, what did you do and how has it worked out?

I would be careful about going into project management. From what I've heard, the industry is remarkably saturated. Within the last couple of years, everybody and their mom was told that project management would be an easy six-figure job, so a lot of people took that route. And now they're struggling to find work because the competition is so high.

Interesting. Thank you for the input. Any suggestions on directions to pursue outside of project management?

Food for though... aim for an IFM and leverage your experience on bio/pharmaceutical facilities management....

Integrated Facilities Manager.

I shifted to CS last year but that seems like a big mistake, maybe it will change, who knows but it seems like the entry level market everywhere is rough and competitive right now.

I have seen this pivot work when people enjoy coordination and ambiguity. Certification alone does not carry it. Framing your scientific work as delivery, risk, and stakeholder management matters more than the badge.

Looking for a remote/hybrid/onsite (Calgary,Alberta) job for my boyfriend who got almost 5 years of experience in proposal writing, RFP, RFI and bid management for a civil engineering firm. He also got an MBA, non drinker, non smoker, clean driving abstract and very polite. He gave out tons of cv in indeed job posters for the past 5 months, ends up becoming the filler candidate, took a huge toll in his mental health and we are going through some very rough patches. Can anyone please kindly help?

Hi! I have a quick question and could use some advice:

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?

Any suggestions that won’t require me taking a crazy pay cut? I’m pretty much open to anything.
