Hey guys. I have been applying to Amex for the past 1 year. Tried applying on the portal, through referrals and even hr consultants reached me regarding the roles since I have a relevant profile. But not once have I been shortlisted or called for an interview. What could be the problem?
PS: I have gotten calls from every other company for the same profile but not amex. Can't be a problem with the profile. Seems something dicey which I'm not aware of.American Express

I think most individuals on this app are fairly well-off. At the end of the day, we need to pick a side in this conflict. I’m glad we picked the one we did.

Of all the things I spend money on, the price of gas isn’t something that bothers me.

Parking rates. Those irk me. 😡

I don’t enjoy spending more on gas, but at the end of the day, I don’t have a choice, so I don’t have much feeling about it either way.
That’s very objective stance and one I can definitely agree. Why fret about things beyond our control? I just wonder if people are okay with reasoning that we are being told?

I’m not blaming Putin for this. He’s a miserable SOB, but that is besides the point. We are in the state we are in because our Federal government has implemented terrible energy policy.

“Dan Naatz, executive vice president of the Independent Petroleum Association of America, said in an interview that the administration "should be credited with moving forward with the drilling permits."
Still, Naatz said, he anticipates challenges ahead for the small and midsize oil and gas companies his group represents, including stricter regulations and a possible hike in federal royalty rates. "But we want to work with them," he said.”
All of these quotes are from that radical right wing paper the Washington Post. While it is true the Biden Administration has issued more permits than Trump, they had to be sued to to so. I would hardly call it pro permit. See https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2022/01/27/oil-gas-leasing-biden-climate/

I can afford it, but it does still bother me when we have the ability to increase domestic oil production but we just don’t do it. There are many people who live paycheck to paycheck, who are barely getting by as it is, and this is definitely a huge blow to their wallets.
That’s a good point and something I think a lot people are not considering is the wider ethical position we allow for when producing our own oil. Not only would we be able to provide cheaper oil for our own citizens but also the create an alternative source source for other countries who rely on Russian oil. Simply not buying oil from Russia will only nominally hurt them. However, becoming a competitor (especially at a time when most of the world condemns their actions in Ukraine) would mostly likely put a dent in their revenues. This would seem like a better way to really “stick it to Putin” so to speak.
It blows my mind that people only think that an increase in the cost of gas just impacts your gas budget. Every single vehicle used for transportation uses fuel, usually diesel, which means that not just gas but food, everything you buy on Amazon, flights, building materials, literally every physical purchase will go up in price. And the US does have natural resources to offset at least some of this but it counteracts this administrations green agenda at the expense of the QoL of Middle Americans. https://apnews.com/article/climate-business-environment-and-nature-91f740cbd9f5f872fcdee911ff5f8026
This is an excellent point a lot of people are not considering when saying they are fine with gas prices going up. There is always a bigger picture to every event that happens; whether it greatly or nominally impacts you. Thank you for sharing!
If I knew that increasing the gas prices would actually be sticking it to Putin then yeah I wouldn’t mind. But it’s dubious IMO.
I agree. Our leaders haven’t actually been very forthright when it comes to informing the public. I believe there are a lot of reasons the gas prices are going up but the WH says it’s solely Russia…
Oil companies’ last hurrah before everything goes alternative 😂🤣😂🤣

Accenture 2 you may be unaware of this but energy in general and oil, gas, and coal in particular are world wide markets. The fact that President Biden may be boycotting Russia means nothing except it sounds good in the media.
The oil will sold on the market. The way to put it to Putin is to encourage energy production, which will lower prices. That is not Plan Biden.
I have always wanted gasoline to incorporate externalities into the cost, so yeah, gas should cost WAY more than it does now. So this doesn’t bother me at all. Plus, I’m actually a huge fan of Biden’s messaging of “defending freedom for increased gas prices” to stick it to Putin

As someone who still works remote and doesn’t drive as often, gas prices don’t matter one bit to me and if it means not buying from Russia, I’m all for it.
Would I feel the same way if I drove every day and spent $65 to fill up the tank every other week? I don’t know, but I like to believe I would because what’s an inconvenience of losing $$ for a few months/years that ultimately will not make a difference once I’m 70 years old when innocent Ukrainian lives are being lost every day.
I have a hybrid so the gas prices don’t really impact me as much since I don’t drive often and my gas lasts me a long time. I also WFH most days so gas prices don’t really bother me.
I'm honestly surprised about the amount of people that are ok with gas prices going up and are missing the bigger picture. Higher gas prices affect a large portion of the population that need a car to get to work, or don't make that much. Also it's just a matter of time before other prices start going up. This probably won't affect my budget, but there are a lot of people that will be affected.
Also, not importing gas from Russia is turning into the US meeting with Venezuela, and as a Venezuelan it really worries me that it will lead to Maduro's gov being recognized after all the efforts the country has made to take him out. I'm not saying to keep Russia as the main source, but there has to be another option
doesn’t matter if i’m ok with it- it’s not something i can influence if i need to drive somewhere
I’m fine with it but upset for people who make less and have to drive, and small businesses that depend on driving.
