I am trying to get back to architecture since a year of sending out resumes but it seemed difficult nowadays due online applications are too tough to get thru to prospective employers. I also fear that age is another hindrance to the competitiveness of the profession. I have a strong desire to work and contribute my knowledge once given a chance. But all I got so far are rejections. Tough times.

I'm from Victoria, Australia and in the same position as you so I understand your frustration and woe. I took a career change 2 years ago which didn't work out for me. Now I can't back into Architecture but the only advice I get from recruiters is to "keep applying" which I don't find helpful if non-one is contacting you. It's really tough here too.

Have you signed up to all the Architecture agencies in London or your area? There are plenty.

I mean the Architecture recruitment agencies. Age shouldn't be a thing (as that would come under as one of the protected characteristic) and that is illegal to discriminate in the UK

I completely understand you! I have the same problem. My professional experience is very broad, ranging from visualization and modeling of road infrastructure objects to furniture design. My salary expectations are also quite modest for the U.S. market — starting from around $2,000 for remote work — but I haven’t been able to find a permanent position yet.

From reading a number of books and listening to a number of podcasts about starting a business, one underlying factor they all share is to have deep passion for what you do. How do you know what your passion is? I mean I think a lot about golf but i don’t think that’s a passion. It’s my hobby. I think most people just know.

Additional Posts in Architecture Bowl

I’m curious to know if anyone has experience working part-time in architecture? I have been working for large international firms in NYC for the past 10 years. So I work all day every day. My evenings and often the weekends are all absorbed by work duties. Working part-time would allow me to find a better balance, and carve out space for side gigs and eventually start my own firm. Any recommendations?
