I went a year before I landed my gig. Jt was worth the wait. But starting to notice the consulting route is not as a shiny as it used to be.
It only takes one yes
It took me just over 2 years, and I’m finally starting a new job on Monday. Keep putting yourself out there. You never know which job application or networking conversation is going to be the one that materializes.
My husband’s salary and tapping into savings a little bit. We were saving for a down payment for a larger home in a HCOL when I lost my job, so it became a great unemployment buffer.
Pro
Every no gets you closer to the right yes. Stay confident and know the right role is on its way to you. Shut that subconscious naysayer down and stay focused. ❤️
I got laid off and found a job after 4 months of searching. Keep at it. Itll come. I did have to go to a much smaller firm however.
Also, leverage your network.
Even people you may have worked with if they know someone will be helpful and most people are willing to at least get you in touch.
I just had a call with a friend who works at the company I applied at and doesn’t know why I got screened out and are following up with HR.
Well, I am not a consultant but I did work in the consulting industry for a number of years as back office staff. I was laid off in 2023, along with many others from both staff and consultants. It took me 1.1 years to land another job. Keep at it... it's depressing, demoralizing, demeaning, dehumanizing, denigrating, devaluing and any/all other DE-words you can think of. But one thing it isnt is "defining". It doesn't define you as worthless or stupid. My wife does not work. But she runs the house, does the cooking, the bills, the schedules etc etc. She balances the finances, finds deals and stretches our earnings. Is it a job? Absolutely! Is it worthy? YES! But in this society an actual job with a recognizable name or a flashy title is somehow worth more... Well, working for Zuckerberg isn't worthy. You're his slave and he's getting rich off of your work. When you're old and frail the sales quota you exceeded that one April won't matter. And surprisingly, it won't matter in May either! If you ever find 2 hours in your work/life balance, go watch About Schmidt. You'll understand.
I’m right there with you
I took 9 months to land an offer. Consulting has little to no value outside and is a circle jerk. The only place that took me was another consulting firm. Just stay strong, and cherish the time you are in right now. Be patient.
Hey need help? I’m a pro
Please ? I am lost with those robot that keeps screening me out despite my relevant experiences
