I wouldn't really say that judging a resume by its formatting constitutes bias. I mean, it's judgmental but it's justified. Anyone looking for a job should be able to create a professional resume, it's really not that difficult. If it looks problematic that's a legitimate thing to factor in. I think the bias that creeps in the most is judging people by their names. It's wrong, but I think we all know it happens.
Work history. I don't like when people are job hoppers. So many people say that it could be due to toxic work environment; however, when you see so many jobs. When do we start looking at candidate to know they are the toxic person and maybe not the jobs?
That is DEFINITELY the same bias that I have. When I see a resume with poor formatting or spelling errors, it makes me not want to read it. I have to remind myself that they may still be a good candidate even if their resume doesn't have good formatting.
I have definitely caught myself being judgy based on some pretty superficial reasons. Makes me wonder how often I don’t catch myself and the judgment just gets through. I’m not sure how to combat this flaw.
