As a Jr I’d stick to agency until you can’t stand life anymore.
JK but not really. You’ll typically work on more types of projects and learn more at an agency vs in-house. Always exceptions but that’s the general rule.
100% 👆🏼
Pros:
- better work life balance (almost never >40hrs)
- less competitive culture
- better benefits and salary
Cons:
- less exciting briefs and opportunities
- closer to brand people who make all the $ decisions but also don’t know what they want lol
- take lots of out of scope asks and less able to push back on brand people on projects
(just my experience obviously)
Moved client-side recently, similar experience to SC1. I like working on the same brand, so works out for me. Feels a bit more corporate-y though.
I’d also stay at the agency a bit longer before moving but not too long when it’s too hard to move.
I think at some point there could be threshold where it might get harder to get the same title. Probably, less relevant for creatives, tbh; but let’s say a director (or above) of strategy or account at an agency is not the same as director of strat at a tech company.
