New Teachers

I currently have 3 mentors, none of whom are in my content area. We’ve had a few meetings and they’ve observed once but I feel like I’m not getting any help or feedback. Anyone in the same boat?

Can’t say that I was. Sorry to hear that! I might be in that boat next year though. My current mentor is going to another county. She recommended that I just find an unofficial mentor who teaches my content and just ask questions

Always feel free to send me a dm. I hop on zoom calls often to support teachers!

Have you been asking questions to them directly? They may see that you are doing well so they don't give feedback. Ask them questions or ask them to focus on an area where you believe you need improvement while they are observing.

I feel your pain; I don’t even know who my mentor supposedly was/is!!

I was assigned as mentor because we “both move between school buildings.” What they didn’t consider is that we are never in the same building at the same time. She was also an agriculture teacher who knows nothing about my subject, music. The best advice I have is to find your own support from a variety of places. While there is no one else in my content area at school, I’ve made connections with older/motherly figures and those in the classrooms surrounding mine. They will often be the one you go to for quick questions or bathroom breaks

YES!!!! With no resources and textbooks that are outdated (pushing 25 years on the copyright, for social studies the information is almost irrelevant now). All I do is eat, sleep, lesson plan and teach. I know the first year is the toughest, but this is a complete nightmare. I feel ostracized by the senior teachers and the administration is worse. It is a toxic environment. I have no idea what to do and my evaluation is this week. I have yet to have anyone observe either. I’m terrified I’m losing this uphill battle. And the icing on the cake is that I have large amounts of collaborative students and students with behavior problems who are medicated. I feel as though I have been set up to fail.

I’m curious to see what the average pay for a campus recruiter in NYC is. I’m one year into this role, came in entry level, and already got promoted, but I want to make sure I’m getting fairly compensated. Any other recruiters here?

Improving and extending your network both internally and with clients is significantly harder over Zoom. For those with established connections this has been a great time to expand market share since the trusted incumbent has an edge.

Is anyone else visibly feeling and watching the mental health of everyone in your agency decline? Those of us who aren’t laid off are grinding on constant pitches, deadlines are insane, and people are starting to be personally cruel on slack and openly yelling or sobbing in meetings or side convos. Or was this always agency life but now it runs 24/7 in my home with no breaks. Anyway. I feel crazy and like my whole agency is emotionally breaking. Thoughts lol?
