I currently work in Employment Practices Liability Insurance as a Claims Adjuster. Before that, I spent 10 years working at a law firm. For anyone who has transitioned from this role into a traditional in-house position, what was the experience like? Has anyone made this transition before?

How much of the buyside recruiting process is dependent on your school? Like if you went to a non targ but were top bucket, will you still lose out on interviews to Ivy League grads?

Protocol for responding (or not) to unsolicited emails from recruiters to your work email? In other words, is it acceptable to just ignore without a response? Or do you prefer to keep the line open with a brief “thanks for thinking of me, I am not interested at this time but hope we can collaborate in the future.”

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.
