I do good work, but I’m clearly not one of the “chosen ones.” There’s another associate who bills way less and still gets praised for existing, looped in on everything, getting face time with all the partners. I’ve been told to “just keep doing what I’m doing,” but honestly? It’s starting to feel like a waiting game I’m not even playing. Is there a way to earn trust and visibility when you’re not the golden child, or do you just wait and hope someone notices?

Planning on getting married in a temple in the US. Does anyone know what all paperwork (eg marriage license, certificate, registration) I should be thinking about and how to get it done?

Need advice. I’m at my first job in private accounting. Previous experience is as an auditor. I am struggling to figure out the way JEs are posted at my current company. It’s never straightforward even for simple entries. There’s things like settlements which confuse the crap out of me. I’m curious if it’s just my company or if every sophisticated accounting department will have non traditional ways of posting their journal entries.

Wondering what people think about my situation. I’ve been offered a role with a company. The job description didn’t mention college degree as a requirement. On my CV I have a section listed as “Education” and under it I have “Business Studies” with the university name and the 3 years that I attended the course (2.5 to be exact). What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. Anyone have any affordable case management software recommendations? I’m looking for something a bit non-traditional as I work for a small nonprofit. Ideally the software would involve document organization/access as well as like a running “log” for folks to post relevant events or work completed for the file.

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options? Second year associate here. How should I deal with the one partner in my practice group who seems to exclusively give me lousy assignments that we’ll never get paid for? I get great work from everyone else.

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). I'm a long time prosecutor getting into the ID game and billable hours. Are there any resources out there that can help me get more effective/efficient without spending months/years learning the hard way? Some days I'm at the office 10 hours, took virtually no breaks and yet only bill 7. 🤬

Advice on managing up / enduring toxic deal teams? I’m at the point where my stomach drops any time I see something come in from certain people.
