I do not understand the current healthcare workforce!!?? My organization has so many open position and it just seems like people don’t want to work!! They apply for the positions then when you call to interview them they don’t answer the phone or they don’t return your call. IF!! And I say IF literally, they do happen to answer and show up for an interview, they are wearing leggings and house shoes!!! WTF??? It scares me to think of the kind of people that will be in healthcare when I get older.

Good luck in Utah…Intermountain has a monopoly and dictates salary pretty much everywhere in Utah 🫤

It’s time to ask hard questions about your organization. Does it really offer fair compensation? Do you have a poor or less than stellar reputation in the community? Do you have a high turnover? Is that high turnover due to poor management/micromanagers?

I have literally applied for about 500 jobs in the past 2 years. I don't get a call. I don't get an interview unless I know someone and vouch for me...

People like to hire people like them... there is discrimination in hiring in the U.S at all levels.

To your point... if you teach them in school to wear flip flops and no standards it will translate to the workforce.

@ Manager 1.... I really feel for you I can't imagine working in a toxic environment anymore. It's very frustrating and deadly to mental health.

I hope you figure out a way to get them out! I am sure I will find something soon

It's frustrating but I also think we'll need to adapt to make it more palatable for them to work for us - the times are changing and we must change with it otherwise we'll be left behind

I agree and most of these younger folks don't really care about the people that they're assigned to care for, seems like all they want to do is sit around, chit chat or play on facebook then collect the pay instead of doing what they were hired to do.

Pay staff better and the roles will get filled. On the daily we get kicked, spit at, hit, yelled at, and verbally abused. And then we are asked what WE did wrong and how we could have prevented the situation?!?!?! This is the norm more than the exception. If I am liable for orders placed incorrectly by the Dr, as much as they are, I better be paid as such.

It would be interesting to see what types of positions. Are you looking for Nurses, Imaging, Lab, Resp Therapy, Physical Therapy, Pharmacy, IT or management. I agree if someone showed up for a clinical position in leggings and slippers I would be hard pressed to offer a position. It seems like professionalism seems to be slipping of late.

Entry level administrative jobs are tough right now. Gotta find the right personality & work ethic combination and consistently help guide them.

There are two generations entering the workforce that believe they are “owed happiness always” and criticism is to be avoided because their individual freedoms and pursuit of immediate “happiness” supersedes all.

I have found better luck with folks who have entered the responsibility phase of life like (marriage, kids, home ownership); I avoid the world traveler or the experience seeker… Add a phone screening and ask one question “why do you need to work”? A responsible adult has a real answer to that.

What two generations are “entering” the workforce right now? (Asking as a 37 year old millennial that has been working since I finished grad school 12 years ago.)

… But when the people who really want to work apply they won’t recall or reply them…. What an irony I have a nephew who’s been applying for since 2 to 3 weeks straight and they won’t call him be back he is almost depressed.

When I joined this site, I was looking for connections to share or get new ideas on latest trends in the job market. But , now I think I need to leave this site ,especially because there are questionable postings from unidentified people. Red flags for me❌

The reason that people do not apply for positions is because it’s about who you know in the organization

Maybe your company isn't paying a livable wage? I have been looking for a job for over 2 months, and it has been a nightmare to find a job that will pay me at least the bare minimum for me to survive...

Companies are not taking into consideration how much the cost of living has gone up. Even though their profits also increased, they want to keep paying the same salary range they were paying 5 years ago...
