I personally think you’re always going to have some things you’re better at than others, so you might as well shine as bright as you can in those areas. Those are the aspects you’ll be able to point out if you have an annual review to show what you’ve contributed to the company, and even if other areas are slightly under-performing, you can be confident in your strong ones.
Thats good advice thank you!
Perspectives will vary, I think it is better to have some area that you excel in instead of ‘average’ across the board. For me at least, I have had issues in specific things and it took a lot of work and time to be just average at them. Ideally you are able to do more with the natural strengths, but still working on the other stuff.
Very true, perhaps i need to lean in more on some of those strengths rather than worrying about what i lack
No way, this is super normal. Everyone's got strong and weak points. But a weak point is different than "underperforming." Can you explain what you mean by that word? It sounds like you are aware that you're capable of doing more but choosing to do less. Sorry if I'm reading into it wrong. Don't mean anything negative by that. Just genuinely curious.
I just mean weak point, but maybe I feel inadequate sometimes when something I am only okay at is someone else's strength.
Think about why! Once I moved to a more specialized role I felt more confident In what I’m good at. I’m “bad” at some things because they are not exciting or interesting to me so it’s like pulling teeth and I do them poorly. Understanding why you “under perform” in an area can help you lean into and understand what sets you apart / makes you a unique talent! Hone those skills and follow roles that offboard the others
That is really great advice, i am going to think about this! thank you
