Have you thought about applying to be a clinical instructor at a law school with a tech / IP facing clinic? It would allow you to continue practicing (in a supervisor role over law students) and also be in academic environment where your more research / entrepreneurial endeavors could be fostered. You’d likely have to move but there are *several* law schools with this type of clinic
I wonder if you could look into teaching short courses remotely? My last year and a half of law school was hybrid/in person but we had a couple 1 credit short courses that were taught over a friday+weekend, with guest professors, for a total of like 20 hours. Classes like negotiation, communication law, social justice & law, etc etc. you could teach the bare basics of patent law or like an upper level specialized in depth look at something (i imagine patenting in medical sciences/antibodies/vaccines is trendy now). Maybe start with hosting a CLE, record it, then use it as a sort of video/audition for a small teach position and work your way up from there?
Patent prosecution is such a garbage service now. Former patent prosecutor here.
What are you doing now if you don't mind me asking?
The legal tech space is exploding and there are lots of opportunities for lawyers who are wanting to shift into a different type of role—plus many are remote. Sounds like it might be worth exploring for you!
I may have an interesting opportunity for you in the legal tech field. Can you DM me if interested?
