I gave notice two weeks ago and my last day is Friday. You don’t owe these people a thing; you own your legal career, but don’t become someone who jumps firms/jobs every year.
Deets on where your headed! Good for you!!
Sending you a pm!
Yeah where ya goin’ and how? Been looking to move too.
Nice. Congrats and good luck!
I gave my notice to my firm a few weeks ago to open my own non-law business. Two other associates gave notice three days before me. They left for more money and greener pastures. I just told them “it’s not you, it’s me.” It was mostly true. They were happy to hear it wasn’t them. So, if you care about what they think or feel, just emphasize that you’ve decided to pursue something not law-related and it’s not because of them. It’s easier for everyone to hear that.
Otherwise, just generally avoid getting into any criticisms of them or the law unless you have a good, specific reason to do so. Whether you’re right or not, they’re unlikely to listen and you’ll only have alienated them a little in the process.
Hell ya, good for you. You don’t owe them a thing.
Would love details on how you are making this move! I would love to do something similar. I hate this profession but feel so stuck.
Also a first year looking to jump practice areas. Worried it would come off poorly but it’s our decision!
