I got an offer from a global company and the 401k match is 1.5% with a max of 7%. This is better than my last company, but I’m not sure how this compares to other companies today. Is this about average or is it low?

A 1.5% match capped at 7% is... unique. For context, the tech industry standard is usually a 50% match up to 6% (effectively 3% from the company) or a dollar-for-dollar match up to 4%. A 1.5% match is definitely on the lower end for 2026. It sounds like they’re offering the bare minimum to check a box rather than using it as a retention tool. Is the rest of the comp package (base/equity) high enough to offset that?

I thought your numbers had to be wrong. That makes a lot more sense. Seems decent to me.

What you said doesn’t make sense. It is 1.5% or 7%
Try again

This is pretty good, better than average.

I get a 100% match up to 6%, so that sounds really low to me. I haven't worked somewhere that does it the way that you are describing.

I meant to say 150% up to 7%

My brain was thinking I put 1%, they put 1.5% 🤦🏻

that sounds low to me. I have seen 5 to 10 percent at past companies

7% is in between 5 and 10 🤨

I have a VC/GE interview coming up (phone screen) and personally don’t know much about the space , it’s just an area that has always seemed interesting.

Does anyone have Recommendations on how to get up to speed/good questions to ask during the phone screen?

I would assume the first call will be pretty standard to any other company, but just want to be prepared.

Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…

For expert witnesses/lawyers

I’m a former forensic scientist that left the field several years ago. I recently received a subpoena from a case I worked and suggested to DA to have evidence re-worked by the lab or stipulation. If I am required to testify (as an expert witness), I would need to book a flight, hotel, etc. My question is this: can I ask for my requested hourly rate, travel, and hotel to be covered when speaking with DA or is that “not how this works” as the investigator put it?

Hi All! Looking for some advice. I am a manager a country club but I do everything. I’m in charge of outside events and member events, in charge of the front of house staff, scheduling, ordering and membership sales for the club. I feel I am very underpaid at $45k. I do get commission but it’s very low ($10k give or take for the year). I work 6/7 days a week sometimes 10+ hrs/day. I’ve been researching salaries to be able to negotiate higher pay. I want to ask for $60k-is this reasonable?
