Wait to hear back from other role. And yes take it if you’re interested and the money is a lot better. You may think it’s a dick move (that’s nice of you to even consider) but corporate America is more or less one giant, ongoing dick move and your current firm will lay you off at their earliest convenience if needed. Best of luck!
exactly! Think for yourself first...I would get the job first and then let them know that you are leaving. Make sure you get the offer in writing and a start date.
I hate to say it, but I agree with the other posters. Until you receive an actual offer, the external position doesn't exist. I respect that your conscience is telling you that you should notify your new internal manager, but the reality is that the message you will be conveying is that you are looking to leave, regardless of whether you get the external position or not. Not really the best way to start a relationship with your new manager, especially if the external position doesn't work out.
Um wait to hear back… this is common sense
Exactly because you don't know if you'll even get the offer
I would wait to hear back first???
yo same boat here kind of. if the 2nd place offered me an offer id happily take it over this other offer where i verbally accepted 2 days ago (final round interview next tuesday for the place i like better). havent signed anything yet cause theyre still working on the paperwork. really dont wanna be the asshole in this situation but its real tough man. guess we should both wait
They would let you go….don’t be a nice guy.
Wait to hear back. Do not set fire to a bridge you don’t have to burn
Wait to hear back.
Yeah I know it sounds dumb. I wasn’t planning to resign now but was wondering if I should give him a heads up that it could potentially happen. I just thought it would be a d**k move to start a new role and resign less than a month later
But at the same time you HAVE to put yourself first. Periodt. Once you take on a new role you’ll never look back.
Once you hear back on the external role and offer you could also use it as a bargaining chip with current employer/new role. Maybe they'd be willing to match or come closer to the (external role) salary.
Wait to hear back at my firm if they know you’re interviewing or going to a competitor you’re gone that day
I would wait to hear back or go with the flow take new role. If and when offered the position outside you nred to make the decision that is best for you. Many times moving internationally is for comfort zone. One needs to look at the big picture and what benefits them the most. Remember everyone is replaceable career life.
Wait
Also, not the worst idea to let the external know that you’ve been offered another position, but you would prefer their role. I’ve had that conversation before, and it allowed them to speed up the process a little bit.
Hopefully you’ve got a decent sense of how they might receive a heads up like that.
Never show your hand! It's business, not personal. That's how they would handle it if you were getting laid off!
Would your employer tell you in advance if they were hiring for your replacement?
