This really depends. Are you happy at your current company (financially, mentally, workload)? Is there room for growth? You can always casually search to see what’s out there. Being at your first agency for 4 years isn’t a bad thing at all but I will say you typically make the biggest salary leaps when you switch agencies. You also have leverage because you currently have have a job. It’s easier to search while you have a job. At the same time, if you’re happy at your current job and you’re on a growth path for promotions, have a good team/boss, and company culture is good it might be a good idea to stick it out. Lastly, with the recent merger in the ad world, it’s an employers market with not many openings, so keep that in mind.
Working at one agency with 3 promotions is amazing.
Talent and hiring managers love to see people who have worked at the same place for many years as it shows loyalty and that you’re a good enough worker that they’ve kept you. Even as a fellow AS, it’s impressive to see someone stay at an agency for more than 2 years / promotions.
If you feel that you’re being challenged, can work on range of clients and you genuinely like the work and people, then stay. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
If you’re not feeling like you’re learning, there’s no growth opportunities or salary/promotion opportunities, then those are good reasons to look around. Also, if you want to work on a specific type of client/industry and you’re not getting it there, then look.
I’ve worked at a few places, and hiring managers either love it or hate it. 🤷♀️
