I just want to know whats reasonable. This is the first time I am going to have an offer, but am not desperate to leave so am in a good negotiating position here. Just dont know how to use it.
Also, thoughts on leveraging it internally for a bit of a bump?
Never done this stuff before and dont want to break some unwritten rule(s) or upset anyone
If you leverage it internally and they don’t give it to you, that won’t be a good position to stay in. Also consider stability of ur new gig as a new joiner on probation given the economy.
Yes you can negotiate signing bonus base and vacation and probably hybrid / wfh if applicable
Yup exactly this. The fact the economy is complete shit is why i am going to require a substantial signing bonus. If rbc were to let me go with my tenure my severence would be solid
There isnt “probation” period (dont remember the last time I had an offer with that in it) but I absolutely wouldnt touch an offer with probation lol. I think i am too senior for that bullshit (7yrs exp and a masters degree)
What level are you at RBC (SM, Director) to be making that salary?
Would be SM level, sometimes known as VP, sometimes known as AD. Depends on where. Even varies within the bank. At rbc its VP in cap markets, SM in personal banking, AD in wealth
Without understanding what the new opportunity is it’s hard for us to comment on what’s a reasonable salary. For example, I’m in consulting and at my firm
$160k would be upper limit for a consultant but there would still be lots of room for negotiation upwards if looking at a manager role.

Are the numbers base or total comp?
PL7 (SM/AD/VP) is publicaly stated as 20%, however many (myself included) get more.
PL6 (director) is completely variable by person. No “standard”.
This is a good problem to have. OP mind me asking whats ur role and group at rbc? Youre at the upper band of GG07. Unless ur in cap markets

When you said you have never done this, does this mean you have only worked at RBC all your career and you have never negotiated salary?
