Here's how I negotiated $10k extra: I really understood and documented the scope and expectations of the role. Dug into the nuances of it, and was engaged and connected. Occasionally rephrasing their requirements back to them. As we spoke I noted areas of the job that punched above its weight class. They offered. I asked, noting those areas and expressed excitement and enthusiasm for what we could do together.
Go to the interview and make sure to ask some questions about what the job entails. If you want to ask for more money, use some of what you've learned as a reason, saying the job responsibilities are a little more than you realized. Be careful, if your negotiation isn't regarded as serious it could work against you. You may consider just going with the number you suggested.
What's the harm in trying? Worst case scenario, they say no. And then you are exactly where you started. But what if they say yes?
Worst case scenario, they use it as a reason not to hire because this person either just plucked numbers out of the air the first time and isn’t serious or they don’t stick to their word.
No harm in trying, I feel like that number is usually the minimum amount someone will have to have to even consider working there.
You need to know your market value, which requires extensive research. When they ask you, give them a range between 2 numbers, which are what you're aiming to get and 20% above that.
Check out my article here on finding your market value. I hope it helps: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/complete-20-step-guide-finding-out-your-actual-market-brent-cherry-jswbc/
Good luck!
It can't hurt to ask. You'll never know if you could get that extra $5k otherwise. But I wouldn't stress too much over this now. Wait until you have an offer in hand and then decide what next steps look like.

It can't hurt to ask! I think it's fair to open the discussion back up to try and get more; especially if its a polite convo with your HR rep I think it's totally fair to reopen the discussion
