How to tackle gap periods in IT interviews?
Although Amazon has instituted a hiring freeze and layoffs are probably on their way, I went through the loop for a security engineer position at AWS. Before I attended the final interviews, Amazon placed the hiring freeze and called me to ask if I wanted to go ahead or cancel my application. I decided do go ahead Right now I'm waiting for their response and the position I applied to changed from "under consideration" to "no longer under consideration". Thoughts?

They will be evaluating you for both levels during the interview so you shouldn’t have to ask. If you perform exceptionally well, I’d expect you’d come in at the higher level
Bet!!
But since I haven't done the onsite yet, I want to know what I can do to be considered at L5 by ways of negotiation and interview performance?
This is Bay Area and it seems L4 salary at non-tech caps pretty low as well as it's not really a jump in experience/responsibility. Looking for a real challenge. Would appreciate advice/insight.
YOE : 5.5
TC : $100k
With 5.5 YOE it’ll be hard to come in at L5, assuming you don’t have a MBA. L4 TC is still very solid though and will be a massive jump compared to what you’re at now (over double). Focus on destroying the interview first, the TC is never an issue at Google.
Thank you. I have a business analytics masters, but I think I'll focus on destroying these interviews
They offered me L5 and then changed it to L6 on business track. I backed out because even with L6, comp was not enough to feed a family of 4 in MV. They are slow in scheduling interviews.
My P1s account of it, it must’ve been roughly $55k
What are you talking about P1?? “Not enough to feed a family of four”. I guess if you’re feeding them white truffles and bottles of Dom Perignon on a daily basis..
Q for you G1, if I absolutely crush the interviews can I somehow ask for L5?
