I informally accepted a position at Silicon Valley Bank, after attempting to negotiate a higher wage, the recruiter advised this wasn't a possibility. However, while completing the background check I received another offer from Wells Fargo. The SVB position most aligns with my career objectives but the Wells Fargo position pays more (13k difference). I want the SVB position however I would like to leverage the Wells Fargo position to negotiate a higher salary. Any suggestions on strategy?
Be upfront and professional about it. Let them know you have a competing offer with a higher salary valuation, and you'd like to take the position if they can get closer to the competing valuation. I'm sure there's a more coherent script on the internet somewhere, but you get the jist of it.

I was in exactly the same shoes a couple of weeks ago. However my competing offer wasn't for a higher comp that what SVB offered. I was still able to negotiate a higher comp and a better role at SVB. I guess it all depends on how hard you are willing to negotiate, macro-economic conditions and the specific group you are dealing with. I am joining SVB from Monday if it helps.
