I just bought a new table saw and I need dust collection! The manufacturer says a shop vac won’t be enough. What do any of you use for dust collection?

I use a portable Laguna B|flux that I move from tool to tool. For the longest time I used the biggest shopvac (Ridgid actually) that I could find. The difference between the two is incredible. The dust collector has so much more CFM and is much quieter as well. It is quiet enough that I just leave it running between cuts where I would be turning the vacuum off just so I wouldn’t have to hear it. Even with hearing protection I found it annoying. It is very high on my “things I wish I would have bought sooner” list. If you have the space I would suggest getting the biggest you can fit and/or afford.

I have the same concerns with Laguna. In my case it was the smallest mobile canister filter I could find. So far, so good.

With product design questions, I struggle to identify user groups. Once I do everything starts flowing and I’m confident. But the initial identification of user groups is something I find challenging. What’s your go-to way of doing this? For example, the question “design a podcasting app for truck drivers.” What types of truck drivers can I select so that I can prioritize a user group to focus on and begin identification of pain points and solutions?

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

Sat down tonight and forced myself to learn Sketchup in order to design some cabinets for a bathroom remodel.... it’s literally a game changer. It will even orient your grain pattern and spit out an optimized plywood cut diagram. Really cool.

Any tips on setting up a garage shop? My roommate is moving out, so I'll have half a garage to set up. Thinking about installing a dust curtain. What would you recommend for a starter shop re: outlets, dust collection, etc.?

Be dazzled by my lumpy, uninstalled raised beds. Still need to trench and fill them, but they stand under their own power!

PSA: Jet and Powermatic are having supply chain issues. Ordered a jet dust collector in March with an April delivery date. Woodcraft has pushed it back every month and their current best estimate is July 7th (though they are still advertising a June ship date). Just keep that in mind if you have any sense of immediacy around your purchasing needs.
