Do you travel enough / use the perks enough to justify the cost of the platinum? I got rid of my platinum for the reserve a year ago and best decision I’ve ever made I earn so many more points. That being said I personally don’t think it makes sense to have both although I’m sure many here do (restaurants are 3x pts on reserve vs 1x on amex)

Personally I just can't justify the net $250 AF for reserve so I downgraded to preferred, which I think $50 is very much justifiable with primary cdw, 1.25x, gopuff credits, dashpass, etc.
It also depends on how you use the points and how much you value centurion lounges and plaza premium lounges.
If you fly international biz a lot, then going with Amex is a no brainer since you have ANA, VS, etc as transfer partners. If you value 1.5x, then reserve is the way to go (unless you have biz plat) but then preferred with 1.25x is close behind.
If you spend a lot and want to keep plat, you should get gold to complement the points earning.
Do you. I have both + the Amex delta Reserve. I more than easily cover my annual fees through promotions and other random savings each year. You don't even need to travel extensively to get recover those annual fees. And frankly, one delayed flight/layover with a centurion lounge makes AMEX Plat worth every penny.
