How much do strategy directors make these days?
Hi guys, Now VMware is offering me a 35% percent hike of what I am earning at DellEmc. I just completed one year at DellEmc. Total 2.7YOE But I don't like to go out of Dell, due to some personal commitments I am planning to switch.
Is it a good time to switch?
Can I talk with my manager ?
Are they able to hike the salary of what VMware is offering? Please suggest me.

You should start looking then. Why join if you weren’t satisfied with pay? You lost all your bargaining power now.
I understand this 100%. The raise I asked for was turned down and I was given 2 smaller bumps. Still doesn’t make up for the workload going from IC to manager. Look at the competitive wages. What do they lose by giving you a raise, even if I’m in increments, vs what they’d pay to get someone else. You’d probably win out but it’s time to start the negotiation conversation. Don’t blame yourself just get to work.
Idk what your role is but similar thing happened to me about 3-4 months into a new role. Job description was for a mid-level paralegal role. In actuality the job was for a senior level paralegal and at times a first or second year associate (as confirmed by the partner several times). I went to my manager and explained this and that I wanted a raise in line with what the market would dictate for such responsibilities. Given that I was delivering on all assignments they never challenged me and gave me a 25% pay increase.
If they deny your request then start looking or set boundaries and expectations.
Good to know. Thank you.
I feel you- happened to me in a previous stint, I was underpaid vs my own report (all things being equal) and peers too. Indeed bargaining power is low but you can have a transparent chat with your manager to share your thoughts: establish why you think you’re underpaid (data points), and room for bridging the gap. Usually agreeing on KPIs to be reached to get an increase should be the desired outcome.
In parallel brush up your cv indeed!
Talk to your manager first. If you're doing well they have zero desire to reopen the search and start looking for a backfill.
Also, if AZ is your current employer your chances are slim. Afaik, alk I've heard if them is that they have a notoriously British approach to HR in the States and consider 3% a really good raise.
The best advice I could give someone, or even myself 10+ years ago is... Be proactive in your career, manage it, know your worth, do research and be aggressive. NO ONE is going to hand you crap if you're silent and don't ask for more opportunity. But make it clear that you expect the money to follow. The worst thing I did in my career for the first 15 years of it... Was work my ass off, take on more, and never ask for more money. Thinking my work would just eventually pay off. Companies don't reward people like that. They just give them more work.
Learn from my mistakes.
