I left consulting for a FAANG job because I got a 150% pay raise. I'm 28, single, and I make around $430k a year and I feel like I'm living paycheck to paycheck. Not sure what I'm doing wrong honestly it's so frustrating

A1 You just did all that humble bragging to a stranger who created this post as rage bait. Also 480k is chump change.

This is rage bait isn’t it

Thank you, appreciate the respect

Why are so many people taking the bait?

You’re only making $430k a year, of course you’re living paycheck to paycheck. Grind harder for a few more years, when you get to 600k, then you can start building a safety net.

Yall…. It’s a joke. Jfc

Obviously it’s not impossible. But it’s still a joke. Look at their responses and use some discernment. 🙄

Is this a technical role? I think I want to move to industry

OP candidly wrote that they got their job through nepotism. Maybe they come from a well-off family. You would be surprised at what is "normal" for children of the upper class. I had an associate in my BCG team who was in his first project, and his first expense report had a bottle of $250 wine every night with room service. He did not understand why I was baffled and did not approve it.

like

Is this real? How did you jump from consulting to sales and immediately make that much, is it an insane base because you’re in a HCOL? Most tech sales people I know have been working their way up for 5-6 yrs and are just starting to look at $300k TC

like

Why do ppl think this is unreasonable. Likely in SF and 1st yr MDs make that much so in sales with commission very doable. My wife went from $150k job to $500k+ for 10 years by landing 1 acct. right time right place right attitude. We have $800k+ the last 5 years and kids and lifestyle creep definitely happen despite our efforts to keep costs low. We save a ton though, so that’s why we feel like paycheck to paycheck until we check investments.

funny

What's your position?

Sales

funny

Don’t rush to buy the newest 911 Turbo every year.

i have a Tesla lol

can you elaborate on what that feeling means to you?

there’s no reason to rely on “feelings” when it comes to money. your bank statements have all the data you need to analyze your spending.

you might have some sort of avoidance anxiety which prevents you some sitting down and analyzing your finances.

i would encourage you to try and push back against that feeling. setting up a budget is one of the first steps towards feeling financially secure. if a budget is too overwhelming, you can at least track the monthly inflows and outflows.

I suspect you already know what you need to do. Take control of your life and trim back your expenses. Surely someone making that kind of bank can figure this out, but you have to take the reins.

You’re either a troll or dumber than your resume/interview skills lead on.

Hi Fishes

I'm using data jpa to connect to oracle DB in our API.

We have one scenario when the DB is down, then also normal flow should work.

Although it is working fine, but when we are checking the logs it's taking more than 1 second just to identify that the DB is locked, this is not within our SLA.

In the normal case it's processing within 200 ms.

We're using Spring Boot, Hibernate, Oracle 19c

Please provide some valuable suggestions from our side

A friend of mine from a top tier consulting firm was counseled out. Do you consider it ethical that his career counselor is intentially spreading the information to his colleagues and to other consultants from other companies in the project? What can he do about it? Specially that he considers the potential layoff is purely based on the current situation (chargeability was low) and not on his performance (they said that his contribution to BD during his bench time was low)?
