If you want nice view + good neighborhood + new building then it’s probably gonna be more than 5k 😬 I know someone who was paying $4,200 for 1bed/1bath, but it’s a “luxury apartment” tho.
I lived in the city at 200k in a nice but older 1/1 and I was just fine. Your friends are crazy.
It honestly depends. I’ve seen $6k for a 2 br with a view (and w/d) not including parking and I know the prices have been going up. My sister and her roommate pay around this much for a 2 br/2bt condo in the mission with no view but it’s a nice sized condo. I would look at zumper for apartment ranges. How familiar are you with SF/ know which area you’d want to live in? Where you live will determine if you need a car. You can also do a car share service. I was in Nashville before and my grocery bill for 2 people is like 2-3xs/week what it was there (not including eating out). You can make anything work it just depends on your lifestyle.
I make a lot less than that and I’ve lived here for 15 years m. Rent is high though. Expect around 6000 for a three bedroom in the inner Richmond
