Crossroads Toyota Motor Sales, USA, Inc. I have been with the organization almost 6 years and have accomplished achievement of my MSL (Masters Strategic Leadership) and LOVE the organization…BUT…I am not having any success in moving into a new position…my interviews are great experiences but it seems to be a pattern of not being selected yet encouraged to continue applying…received information from a mentor/manager to ask for candid feedback…when is enough…ENOUGH??

That does sound frustrating. Having over 20 years of experience might not be a matter of incompetence. They might be worried you're overqualified or expecting a higher salary. I suggest you emphasize how your experience can address their concerns and seek honest feedback after the interview
I’m in the same boat. 9 interviews, well qualified or over qualified for each. Each interview felt like it went exceptionally well. No call backs, no emails, nothing. I’m 45 and very capable, with excellent references. I don’t understand.
It has been frustrating when I know I am well qualified and in most of the cases yes over qualified. I have had to apply to positions that are smaller but yet still qualified for .It's like they are scared to hire me bc I am over qualified. Normally, I apply to bookkeeping but there hasn't been much out there for bookkeeping positions.
It's truly impressive to have survived 50 interviews. I'm a bit curious, was the feedback from the recruiters really just "insufficient qualifications"? Based on over 20 years of experience, could it be more about job fit, salary expectations, or a difference between the company's requirements and your background?
I have taken in to consideration that I am overqualified. I have asked some of those companies if they would explain but all they will say is that it's my qualifications and won't explain any further. I know for sure that I lost one position due to being overqualified and a pay concern to which I knew their pay when I applied for the position. I tried explaining that but did not matter. At this point pay is not my issue. I just need a job to pay the bills.
What types of jobs are you applying for? I've had extremely good success in my field, but it's pretty niche: I'm doing industry, small to midsize manufacturing and construction firms, in-person only. I had absolutely zero traction with public and hybrid/remote roles that I tried for. Perhaps you need a specialty. You can tweak your resume towards that, and lean into it during interviews. I'm 48 and just pivoted into accounting last year; got a Bachelor's online, landed a low-wage bookkeeper job last fall, applied to the job market again recently and just landed a role double the salary of what I was making previously. Good luck!
Thanks! I have experience in a lot of different industries. The last one was a bookkeeper within the concrete cutting construction industry. I do not have a bachelors degree, only an associates. I have more than 20 years experience in accounting.
In the same boat 20 years a shift Supervisor, retrenched applied for well over 100 jobs in 3 months with only a handful of interviews. All asking what money I expected. Even when I lowballed it the still thought I was asking way too much. Example 7 day fortnight 12.5 hour shifts 6pm to 6.30am and they want you under $40 an hour. I just don't get it.
Yes I have tried it both ways but nothing.
