you are. don’t move here.
First, if you’re moving with a NY / CA income, you’ll be positioned much better than Miami home growns.
Pros:
- Lower cost of living / no state nor city tax. Money goes a long way here
- If you’re from Manhattan like me, you’ll appreciate the space you have down here
- Outdoor season all year round
Cons
- People aren’t as intellectual or well-rounded comparing to NYC
- Lower quality medical care professionals comparing to NYC
- Changing jobs wouldn’t be as easy as being in a larger market with more options
Comes down to what you’re looking for in your life at the moment. No city is for everyone.
It’s pretty insulting to Miami Natives for you to say that the people here aren’t as intellectual or well-rounded compared to NYC.
In reality, it all depends on the company you keep in both cities. You will find both sides of the spectrum in both cities.
think this is the reason others are saying you sound pretentious. Personally, You don’t sound pretentious, you sound like a New Yorker who moves to Miami for the weather then consistently talks about how things are better in NY. The food is better, the pizza is better, we have Broadway, and Museums, etc etc. Honestly, you may have Broadway, but you also have the Bronx. So yes, NY is great but so is Miami. So please don’t come down here to enjoy our city but insult the population as a whole.
Moving from the Northeast to Miami (pre-Covid) was the best decision I’ve made.
Can’t put a price tag on the quality of outdoor activities year-round. Also your money goes soooo much further here, it’s insane. Had to learn a bit of Spanish to make sure I get by, but no big deal. People complain about the drivers here but I didn’t see it being much worse than NY
Happy you took the time to learn some Spanish.
Moved out of Miami 2 years ago after growing up there. It’s overpriced, the people are extremely rude and aggressive, the food is fantastic though. Miami is a vacation city, not a good place to live. Don’t believe the movies. Also, agencies in Miami tend to pay well below market norm. Move literally anywhere else.
CS 1 can still contribute their opinion on something they have had experience with. Just as you may disagree with their opinion, they still have the right to provide it
I think the answer depends on what you mean by “miami”. Are you hoping to live a downtown Miami city life. Are you looking for something more suburban or somewhere in the middle. What things do you enjoy and do they line up with Miami. If you love being outside and on/in the water Miami is great. If you’re a big fan of NYC theater nights out then Miami won’t be a great place for that. If you’re hoping to blend in with a primarily Latin American culture south Florida is great for that. As you move further north there’s less Spanish and more English. If you want to live closer to the ocean you’re likely in an apartment of some kind. If you want an estate on a couple acres there are great places to be.
All this to say, you have to be clear on YOUR needs /wants/preferences/lifestyle/likes/dislikes and then see if the city or some part of the state fits.
Pro
All highs, lows are people messing up their last place and then running down here

Principal 1 is it still worth moving there given the cost of buying your own place has gone up astronomically?
P1 literally moved from one of the few places more expensive to live in than Miami,so of course they think everything is a bargain here
