I never thought there were skills to learn in sales. I thought it was more of something you either have or you don’t but I’ve learned so much from my teammates in how to position and sell from their years of experience versus me being relatively new. What’s the best sales advice you’d give a newbie?

Some solid basic advice would be to spend 70 percent of your time listening. A common mistake by beginners is to dominate the conversation while trying to make the sale. A more effective strategy is to discipline yourself to listen and discover the real need the customer has.

Not to be too cocky. You'll be a lot more successful if you remain humble. Too often, these young kids come in, thinking they will be making bank because they were mr popular in school. It's fun watching them fall flat on their faces.

My company blames my generation for not being able to hire everyday. “You guys don’t want to work” coming from some overweight, racist, old coaster. I’ve barely taken any days off this year and pick up “skeleton crew” days any chance I get. I was able to work out a deal with my company before I came because of prior experience luckily, but they offer a terrible base salary and sham of a commission structure to new hires + no remote. Then sit here and can’t figure out why…
