Not sure on this one. They could easily tell you to stop remote work in the future. Also if it seems like this boss isn’t very cooperative with you it could become an issue in the future. All those additions you are getting seem very good but you always have to see what will happen later in the future when the company undergoes challenges from changes in the economy. I would keep my options open. But as of right now this does sound like your best option given your circumstances.
I second this.

I’d take it and maybe continue working.
I always say trust your gut so there’s something there on your assessment. I’d just as soon get paid to see if this boss is tolerable while I’d continue to look

Good point. And a lot of specific jobs are 1-2 small steps away from being close to perfect. For example:
- your boss might get a new role and your love working for a new boss
- your assessment is correct but he / she is hands off
Did you already start your job? If you did not sign the contact yet, you can ask them to add that your arrangement is work remotely full time, just to avoid your manager asking you to go to the office just because...
I would accept this offer and what a couple of moths to see how things will adjust. But keep your eyes open and resume updated. You can come across a better opportunity. Good luck!
I would try to meet up with other direct reports to him. They may be more honest or speak to turnover on the team (presumably bc he's a butt).
As a fully remote employee and new mom I can’t underestimate how great it is to have this flexibility.
