I really thought hitting 10k steps a shift would be plenty to lose weight, but I’ve seen zero progress. I know I probably need "real" exercise, but I’m so beat after work I can barely stand in the kitchen, much less hit the gym. Any tips for balancing the work exhaustion with a workout routine?

That should be plenty of steps if you were walking for exercise, but if you're just logging steps at work it probably won't accomplish much. You're not walking consistently doing that, you're just moving around. Try to take a walk, a real walk, for at least a half hour a day. Once you're used to that, get up to an hour a day. If you do that and also adjust your diet you'll lose weight.

How is your diet? You can't out-exercise a bad diet. I wasn't losing any weight and it was frustrating me so much until I switched to lower carb and cut out the junk food. Then it finally started falling off.

I'm not sure what department you work in.. but "sometimes " when you walk down the hall.. do lunges, when you're documenting, do bicep curls with saline bags and most importantly DO NOT eat Hospital food !! I know it's convenient, but it is not good for you !! Usually fried, salty . I have been a nurse in the O.R for 28 years and I felt the same way and I tried these things and although they seem menial, they do help.
Your strength from all your work keeps you strong, trust me.. if you don't work for 6 months like I did, you loose your stamina, you are in better shape than you think
YOU ARE STRONG !! 💪

Well I recently told a guy I have been seeing I have HSV-2. We have not yet been physical but it’s been heading that direction. Man I hate this part - waiting to see what his response will be after he researches and talks to his doctor. I’m on daily meds which help reduce transmission risk. You’d think that since HSV-2 affects 20% of Americans and likely a higher % of gay men, there would be less taboo but it’s hardly ever talked about. Anyone else in my shoes? Or had it disclosed to them?

Are you meeting or exceeding your objectives?

I’m not talking about the objectives your manager set FOR YOU.

I’m talking about the goals YOU set for YOU.

- Finding work that fulfills you
- Joining the company that aligns with your values
- Getting paid what you’re worth

No one sets these for you. You do the work.

I’m in a tough spot—still waiting for conflicts to clear and out of the blue, a partner reached out regarding a project that they’ve staffed me on. They want my availability to begin working on the matter next week…how do I handle this? I haven’t given notice, but expect to do so soon…I don’t think it’s prudent to start a new matter esp. since I know I’m leaving…but I can’t turn down work with a straight face (especially because my hours are in “checked out” mode)…

UM Nurses - what do you like and dislike about your role

Hello,
I'm looking to know what remote jobs are out there for nurses/ names of companies? I used to work in the OR and I'm also considering going back and just working 4-10s.

I'm an outpatient nurse currently but I don't get lunch breaks, and the work load keeps increasing with no mention of another nurse to help us.

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. I was taken aback recently when a friend told me I am calloused and cold-hearted for not being able to say those words. Is she right? Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??

Any advice on how to tastefully tell your manager that you no longer want to be a charge nurse anymore? For us being in charge is having full assignment 3p-7p & being responsible for assigning pts , communicating w/ supervisor about various issues, making the assignment for next shift, and a mini report about each pt for the next charge. On the weekends, same responsibilities but 7a-7p. We don't get any additional pay for being in charge and I'm sick of the added responsibility and stress of it.
