Toronto ad fish 🤠 I’ve spent most of my career working as a copywriter in London (6 years here, 2 years Toronto) and the market is pretty different here. I’m planning on moving back home but wondered….how do you find work in Toronto? Agencies barely post openings, is the recruiter scene strong? Is it mostly who you know?

It’s great. I’m surprised they approved it, but good on them for it. People will remember it.
I agree that if you look at it too long you start to go cross eyed, but at a glance it's waaaaaaaaaay better than anything RONA has ever done before, and is actually interesting
Rising Star
We want clients to buy interesting work but we shit on any work that is remotely interesting.
The ad is better than 99% of the ads on Canadian TV. Rona stands for doing it right, not being a half ass. Don’t overthink it.
I think this is what they call “advertising”. It helps create value for a product even if that value doesn’t actually exist. Next lesson, logos!
But if the takeaway is buried so far into a self indulgent creative idea, does it just become art?
Needed tightening up for sure to not be so repetitive, have more of a payoff and be a bit clearer what the role of Rona has in the non half assing.
But I bet regular people will remember and like it.
I mean the payoff of “no one likes a half ass” and then a sad half-donkey is memorable and ownable. Being a DIY brand and complaining about half-assing things speaks directly to how every contractor I’ve ever met speaks about… every other contractor I’ve ever met. (And this is a core audience beyond DIYers, who also see themselves as an anti-half ass option).
The bad contractors should have been half contractor half ass/donkey.
The humour will def appeal to people working in trades.
The only people thinking this hard about it are the people on this app. The target audience will remember "Never half ass" and the silly donkey puppet ie Rona makes me laugh, I like Rona
? It’s great. And smart.

I’m genuinely curious - how so? Cause to me it’s saying don’t half ass your reno by doing it yourself. But if you do a reno yourself, you’re generally going to Rona anyhow (for at least some stuff).
The Quebec “Mike Chez Rona” was definitely a winner for me. This is confusing.
You're talking about it. You know it's Rona. Their job is done.

I mean not really… my local Rona is trash. Only go to Home Depot.
I'm with you strategy director, how that got sold through ?? How many people watching will get a 2 legged jack ass = half assed??
Most of them. It’s not that hard to get.
My hunch is the 15s and 30s are stronger than the 60 or however long it was.
