Going from 4 to 8 weeks ain’t gonna happen. I would ask for 5, that’s what I have at my current role. Combined with sick days and holidays, I get 2 months off per year anyway. You really need more than that?
Exactly. How much do you really need? Sometimes less can go a long way, esp if u bump it up to holidays. I can’t speak for you tho
You likely won’t be able to use pay to bargain for more salary unless you are high in their comp band. With that said, some companies have vacation policies that are non negotiable. Always ask. Worst they say is no, right? Also asking for 2 of the 12 months they are paying you to work for PTO is a lot for someone that will be brand new to the org. Maybe start with 4 and ask for 2 more after the first year.
Stay with your company. The grass is not always greener on the other side. I made that mistake years ago. Take care
You’re going to to struggle to get close to 8 weeks working in the EU, where policies are significantly more generous (and salaries are lower) - otherwise, 4 weeks is pretty generous by pre-unlimited PTO US standards. You might be able to squeeze an extra week out of them, but I wouldn’t ask for 8 unless you wanted to see them move on to the next candidate pretty quickly.
At one job, I asked for an extra week to match what my husband had at a Big 3 auto company, with the understanding that the extra week would be without pay. Offer was already substantially below market (I was unemployed), so CEO agreed (if somewhat reluctantly). But I had a solid reason and didn’t negotiate lower pay (in hindsight, I should have).

Have you been able to take even close to 8 weeks off in your current role?
"Unlimited" PTO looks great on paper but is contingent on approval and rarely works out as truly unlimited.
I'd hate to see you lose out on a great opportunity due to an unrealistic expectation about PTO.
I'm gonna being honest, are you looking for more money or better Life work balance? Ask yourself that because in my opinion it's better have good life quality
Even though they offer "unlimited" PTO you won't use it. Research has shown that most people wind up working more and taking less PTO.
Totally valid to push for more time. It sounds like they’re interested in you, so I’d have that conversation and see what’s possible. Even if they can’t give you 8 weeks, maybe they can meet you in the middle or offer unpaid time.
How does unlimited PTO even work? Didn’t even know that existed tbh
Is PTO accrued in a certain manner at this company? For example, you may earn 7.5 hours every two weeks. If that gets accrued in a manner, that’s like that see if you can up the hours that a crew. That may assist as well.
I am curious what is your company’s name . It is more PTO than most companies would offer. I would say ask for 5.

At your current company do you feel that you can take unlimited PTO or is there a functional limit?
I would not take a lower salary than offered and I would think twice before asking for more vacation time, since the job market is very tough now ! You can always renegotiate way down the road. So don't say anything now. Please just take the job offer and be happy 😊 😃. Best, T
I've been in the job market for 40+ years. Where I currently work, we get 3.2 weeks PTO and a week of personal time. You can carry over 180 from year to year, and they buy you down to 180 every 6 months. If you don't use personal time, they pay it out at the end of the year. This is about the best I've ever seen.
I would be happy to get 4 weeks. Am going from unlimited pto to new company for just 2 weeks of pto.
