I received a verbal offer today for a revenue manager position at a construction company. I’ll be making more than 30k more than my current position so I’ll be kinda crazy not to take it. But they just told me that it is contract to hire 6 months to a year. The salary discussed with the recruiter was about $15k more as well. How should I address these concerns? After I receive my written offer of course.

I’d wait until you have the written offer, then have a pretty direct but polite conversation. I’d say you’re excited about the role, but you want to clarify the contract-to-hire piece, benefits, and what the path to full-time actually looks like. I’d also mention that the salary discussed with the recruiter was higher and ask if there’s room to get closer to that number. The raise is great, but I’d want everything clearly spelled out before accepting.

Serious question from a happy software engineer, what do you all love about your work/actually enjoy doing during working hours?

I'll start; I'm privileged enough to have been given the opportunity to work and learn deeply on Linux and Kubernetes, and I get to tinker and play with them all day. Problem solving with them is a "fun" part of my job.

Of course most things aren't roses and sunshine, but I'd love to hear the positive parts of what you are doing, or what you like to do at work.

Hello Technie's,
I am in a confused state of mind with my current situation & I can surely use some advice from you guys.
I'm working with a product company for almost 5+ yrs now & recently decided to separate from them for obvious compensation reasons.
I have multiple offers now with product/service based companies.
The top and the best offer I have is from a service based organization of almost 100% hike.
Now my company wants to retain me & offering me even higher. What should I do?

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

Need career advice. Trying to break into a finance role, preferably an Analsyt role but I have no transferable experience. I worked as a mortgage loan officer (which is sales) for 2 years after college, but since mortgage is such a niche industry, no hard skills transfer and have no relevant undergrad internships unfortunately. I know I can essentially get any sales job I want in finance IE: financial advisor etc. but don’t want to be stuck in sales forever. Any advice?
