I received an offer, but I would like to earn about 3% more than they offered me. When I counter, should I just ask for the 3% or go a little higher? Not sure if it's a good idea to give myself a little buffer when they counter my counter offer. Does that make sense?

Definitely go for at least 5% probably 10%.
3% I don’t think it’s worth asking

Counter for 10% over. Asking for 3% is silly. If/when they counter back, it'll likely be somewhere in the middle, which sounds like will be acceptable for you. Good luck.

Always go higher to give yourself room to ‘settle’ for lower. Making sure that all numbers are at least within reason.

What's the market at relative to your 3%

Assuming your comp is $300k/year, 3% of that is just $9k and does not make sense. I would ask for 10% -15% with justifications (market, your unique experience to make an impact, etc.)

I would go higher

Could you share more about the $ figure amount you’re looking for?

I’d appreciate your thoughts on what compensation you might expect for a CSM transitioning to a new company with one year of experience.

To clarify, I don’t have an offer yet, I’m just looking to make a move.

Thank you!

I asked for a raise in April 2022 after three years with my company. Positive feedback since day one. Learned I was making less than peers at other asset managers in NYC with less experience (14 years). Latest conversation was with HR about how they calculate salaries. I’ve been asked to provide examples how my role has changed since I started to justify the increase. Is this normal? Or is this just their way of denying my request?

Stocks offered, unlimited PTO, and 70% Medical covered. Offer B. Is at a business much larger…90k salary with 10% bonus and generous stock offering. Titles are different which is why the pay is much different. I know some may think it is a no brainer but offer A allows me to grow the department ground up whereas offer B id be apart of to just different
