Bless you PMs.

AWS cloud application architect. Had an on-site interview with AWS a few days ago and just got an email saying they want to talk to me about next steps. The role is cloud application architect but I want to ask them about the senior cloud application architect role. I have all the relevant experience for that role and feel like I’d be a better fit for that senior role. How should I approach this conversation? Is this even possible? Amazon

Same org? That’s a pretty rare bump if it was an internal promotion. Congrats!
Yes same org 🤯
Thank you!
You make a really good point. A lot of people knock office politics, and think that the term means all kinds of shady plots. But it can also mean just getting along with people and being personable and being the kind of person someone wants to work with. A lot of promotions come about just because someone networked their way into it.
Congratulations! That is a huge jump. Networking has been a huge focus of mine recently. Something I let slip for years and am really seeing how much of an impact it can make. Slowly but surely focusing on it and I believe 100% it is an even split between the two!
Yes!! It’s never too late IMO to focus on networking. If people don’t like you, it’s so hard to move up.
While I do agree with you, I would respectfully suggest it could be split three ways: What you know, who you know, and thirdly, what you DO. Over the years I've seen a number of knowledgeable people get passed over because they simply don't produce. But even with that caveat, those three legs aren't evenly weighted by any means. You are definitely correct that who you KNOW definitely carries more weight in my experience.
This is absolutely true! I’m currently in conflict with a few individuals on my team for not producing quality work 😬
