Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Sounds amazing what you did. Since you’re already adding value and showing commitment, there’s no harm in a kind ask. Maybe frame it like, “Given my prior experience and current contributions, I’d appreciate being considered for the full increment.” Keep it warm, honest, and focused on your impact
Be clear and professional with your CFO. Highlight your past experience as a financial controller and the value you bring despite being on probation. Explain that since you accepted a lower package for location reasons, you'd appreciate reconsideration for the full increment as a recognition of your skills and commitment. Keep it factual and confident.
I’d suggest preparing a brief summary of your contributions so far, highlight quick wins, efficiencies, or leadership moments. Then ask for a meeting with your CFO to discuss alignment on your role and growth, and bring up the full increment as part of that bigger picture.
I just took on a new role as a financial controller and have been auditing the books and have found so many mistakes. One of the things that I have noticed is the staff just kind of comes in when they feel like it. Is it expected that a controller is to be in the office at 8:30 am or is that just micromanaging.
