OP, happy to chat if you are looking for a mentor, and I’m sorry you are not finding that in your current work structure.
Thanks for offering, I didn’t have one while I was an acct person. In my PM role, I have mentors and supportive teammates. I think the industry set us up to fail, I have considered leaving the industry altogether, but it’s probably the same story in other industries.
“Fail harder," they say...
Welcomw to my life
lol I learned that the hard way but I’m still pushing forward
I’m in the same boat 🙃 and my position is basically jr acct per CD1’s comment above.
Super common and totally tragic. If my first agency job had been my introduction to what a project manager does, I'd have thought PMs were people who do the stuff mid- and sr account folx didn't want to do. OP, sounds like you've got a great peer group and even some mentorship. Have you approached anyone with types of continued development training you'd like to be taking? And PM1, do you want to be true PM or are you thinking more client services?
If you enjoy the agency environment and client set, maybe look for a place that has more programming and development going on? What kinds of projects do you manage now?
Is a project manager an actual career path where you work, or is it a synonym for jr. acct.? Which would you prefer?
@CD1 It’s an actual career path, basically we are ones to keep everyone in line, on budget and on time. Very imperative especially because Ad dollars dwindle down each year.
