To some extent, it functions like a slap across the face of those elites who still refuse to recognize the fundamental nature of the CCP system and remain trapped in the fantasy of a globalist utopia.

From Trump’s perspective, the visit can also be interpreted as a kind of final ultimatum: the United States has once again demonstrated goodwill and once again offered an opportunity for cooperation. Now it is the CCP’s turn to decide whether it is truly willing to continue participating in global trade under conditions of genuine openness, reciprocity, and verifiable rules.
If the CCP still refuses meaningful structural opening, then the domestic political resistance inside the United States against stronger measures toward the CCP will likely decline significantly. The faction that has continued advocating “engagement” and “optimism about reform” will lose much of its credibility once confronted again by reality.
