I think Trump’s visit to China may also unintentionally produce an important political effect: it gives the Chinese Communist Party another opportunity to honor the commitments it made when joining the WTO — namely, opening its financial markets and reducing state monopolistic control.

Bringing these top-tier technology and financial giants to China in such a high-profile manner will first generate enormous anticipation among Silicon Valley, Wall Street, and the social elite class (Continue)

2. that has long supported the Democratic Party and the ideology of global integration. They will once again convince themselves that perhaps the CCP is finally willing to genuinely open its markets, follow international rules, and integrate into a truly free trading system.

But the end result will likely be profound disappointment — and that disappointment is almost predetermined.

3. In effect, this creates a political and psychological dynamic in which the elite groups that have long maintained unrealistic illusions about the CCP — and in many cases have become economically or ideologically intertwined with it — are first emotionally energized, only to be confronted with a complete collapse of those expectations. The higher the expectations, the more painful the impact when reality reasserts itself. That emotional whiplash becomes its own form of political education.

To some extent, it functions like a slap across the face of those elites who still refuse to recognize the fundamental nature of the CCP system and remain trapped in the fantasy of a globalist utopia.

4. From Trump’s perspective, the visit can also be interpreted as a kind of final ultimatum: the United States has once again demonstrated goodwill and once again offered an opportunity for cooperation. Now it is the CCP’s turn to decide whether it is truly willing to continue participating in global trade under conditions of genuine openness, reciprocity, and verifiable rules.

If the CCP still refuses meaningful structural opening, then the domestic political resistance inside the United States against stronger measures toward the CCP will likely decline significantly. The faction that has continued advocating “engagement” and “optimism about reform” will lose much of its credibility once confronted again by reality.

5. I think that whether or not Trump himself consciously recognizes this strategic effect, the unintended consequence itself is entirely foreseeable. (End)

I’d like to see China lean on Iran to give up the enriched uranium. That would help the relationship.

Hi everyone. I’m a front end software engineer. I’m interviewing next week for a solutions engineer at a company I really like, which I mistakenly applied for as I saw they needed ReactJS, JavaScript, HTML/CSS. Upon reading the job description, it’s clear I will be doing a lot of sales and client consulting over actually coding. I know they have a FE SWE role open. How would you approach asking the recruiter if there are any SWE openings I could be considered for instead ?
