Aah, maybe that’s your problem. You’re going too low. Even though you’re pivoting you have relatable experience. Maybe they think you’ll leave quickly or will suddenly decide you’re worth more. Maybe you’d have better luck trying for a mid management role instead of back at the bottom.
In my experience, I’ve seen ageism a couple of times when 30+ people were looking for junior level work in film editing and in production. The fear from the employer is that you won’t want to stick with the inevitable grunt work for long enough to last. They hire a junior role, not intending to promote to senior that quickly. I don’t know how to solve. I wish I did, I want to try something new as well.
I don’t think that’s an age thing - I’m 41 and have had no problem getting my last few jobs. Perhaps you’re not talking up your experience in producing in the right way. It’s a bit of a jump from creative, they might not be seeing your potential
I’m looking for a junior role. I have experience but I know it’s a jump so I’m willing to start at the bottom. A lot of the comments are about why would I wanna try this now. Really I don’t know why I didn’t earlier.
Maybe try a mid role ... same thing happened to me as an older industry changer. I didn’t get junior roles but then got a mid.

Thanks. That’s what I thought too. I get mixed messages on where it start. I know I have related experience- to the point of producing many projects- informally of course.
I think getting into production older is really hard, especially with no direct work in the field. And producers are very protective of their turf. Departments are shrinking and a lot of work is being made in-house with more junior (younger) producers. You would really need someone to mentor you to help you get that shot. Be patient but also expand what getting into production could mean for you. Maybe a hybrid role or something you can create for producers... look at the opportunities that relate and utilize your creative background. Give them something and they will give back to you in return. Don’t just interview it won’t go anywhere.
