Almost always. Don’t go to HR. Start documenting separately from a work phone or address. Start applying for other jobs but discreetly. And remember a two week notice is a courtesy but not mandatory so show them the “courtesy” they’ve shown you and give them none. “By the way it’s my last day today” as you exit. Don’t do an exit interview, don’t waste more time with people who don’t value yours.
It does not permanently hurt your career if you are proactive and don't wait for people you can't trust to make decisions on your career. Do not tell them your personal business. Spend your lunch breaks away, and look for a new opportunity daily. Event Manager 1 is correct, HR's role is to protect the company first, so you can't truly trust them fully. Document EVERYTHING. If they are determined to speak in person, or over the phone, just do a basic follow via email. Ex: Thanks Tom for clarifying my work schedule for this weekend, and that all I need to do is write in the calendar when I plan to take a day off. Let me know if there is anything else I need to know about calling off! This puts in writing that a conversation was had, there is a date, and time, and will help you if you need to contact the EEOC. Retaliation and Hostile work environment are only able to be proven if you have solid proof. Good luck!
