I used to think the next role would feel like a clear step up. In reality, it often feels like a trade in some ways. Some things better, others harder.
Not a ladder, more of a shift.
Has moving up felt like progress or just change?

I think you nailed it. Some parts of the change feel like progress, others not so much. And I’ve found that to be true whether the step is a lateral or a promotion.

Here’s the reframe though - choose to celebrate the things that feel like progress. And celebrate the learning opportunities that come with the things that feel harder. Because if they feel harder it’s likely because you’re being stretched in some way you haven’t before, which means you have an opportunity to grow stronger.

Great points! Thanks for sharing.

You hit the nail on the head. It definitely always feels like a change with new challenges. But I think anything that moves you forward in any way, even small, is progress.

Yep, agree

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.

I am seeking new employment, I was recently laid off due to lack of work. I would very much appreciate any leads. I have a Bs in Construction Management and over 15 years experience with Revit and AutoCAD and 7 years of plumbing design. I have solid references and impeccable work ethic. I truly enjoy what I do. Working remotely the last three years has become a way of my life and supports our current situation well, therefore I am seeking a similar role but will consider other opportunities.

Hi! I have a quick question and could use some advice:

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?

Looking for a remote/hybrid/onsite (Calgary,Alberta) job for my boyfriend who got almost 5 years of experience in proposal writing, RFP, RFI and bid management for a civil engineering firm. He also got an MBA, non drinker, non smoker, clean driving abstract and very polite. He gave out tons of cv in indeed job posters for the past 5 months, ends up becoming the filler candidate, took a huge toll in his mental health and we are going through some very rough patches. Can anyone please kindly help?
