I want to start looking and I saw a role within the holding company I’m wondering

How do I tell my manager I want to start applying within the network? (The recruiter said I need to have this convo)

Absolutely not. You don’t. Agencies don’t care about holding company generally, they care about themselves and losing an employee is loss of talent/retention/cost to replace. I’m under IPG and have also been under Publicis and moved to different agencies within both without telling my manager or HR.
They have a bit of paperwork to deal with to transfer within but nothing insane

like

Tell them you’d like to meet the hiring managers first before reporting your intentions to your manager

like

If you're omnicom then I believe you just need to tell HR and not your manager.

WPP requires notification with HR and managers. They have no poaching clauses between agencies in the same city. They also use this to ensure the employees salary doesn’t get inflated between new and old positions. It’s kind of shitty. Especially if you hadn’t gotten a raise in a few years at your first WPP shop. You can’t increase your salary by more than 20% without a jump up in title.

like

... OP is under WPP. Publicis policy is not relevant. At WPP, managers need to be informed and approve the transfer.

like

Don’t until you know if it’s serious

like

@SPM That entirely depends on the holding company from my experience. Within WPP, you needed to get manager sign off before they get to the offer letter stage. I don’t know that you need to have the convo when it’s just initial conversations and interviews, but it’s true that your manager did need to sign off on your transfer. Many people obviously got screwed by this rule, and the consensus was always that you needed to leave and then reapply if you wanted to transfer within the holding company.

@OP, how is your relationship with your manager? Are you serious about this particular role? If you trust him/her (very important), divulging night not be terrible. But know that the risk is tipping him/her off that you’re looking. Talk to the recruiter and see how they’ve helped others in this position. Ask if the conversation needs to happen before any interviews take place, as you still need to learn about the role before potentially jeopardizing your career. Good luck!

like

I had to do this at Publicis. You can get all the answers to your questions about the role before you tell any manager or HR partner. That way, you can be sure the move would be worth it before you exert any effort. Once you know it’s a role for you, feel confident telling your manager. Just realize that he/she will know you’re looking and you may be overlooked for opportunities if you don’t get the role

like

I also could not meet with hiring managers first, per the internal transfer policy. But that’s a great idea if you’re allowed to do it.

Dude you are at GREY. If your manager is half of a decent human she/he will understand your situation. If they don’t you can have a chat about career development with your HR person. In-group transfers need to be very transparent (someone posted the WPP rules here a short while ago, worth doing a search).

Of course, when you talk to them they will know you’re looking at other things (like everyone else there), so if you are concerned with people thinking you are trying to run away is to say that you are not actively looking for stuff but this came to your attention and you think it would be great for your career. Grey can’t offer much growth right now, so the career card is a strong one to play.

like

Within Publicis your manager needs to sign paperwork before you are allowed to interview/meet with the new team you are looking at

You have to tell your manager and they have to approve. Then they have the chat with HR. But it's a sham. It's almost like you are frowned upon because you want to do something else. Be very careful.

So, I’ve done it in WPP and helped others do it... my suggestion is don’t bother. Internal transfers are a catch-22 with very limited upside. They WILL NOT allow a major pay increase. The BEST way to move along in WPP is by working on large RFP’s that result in a new team being formed. The second best way is to work with a mentor (AUNT or UNCLE) and have them get you shifted. Your boss (parents) are never gonna let you do what you want. Client requests can also help. Bottom line is: Someone has to move you along. Getting a transfer to a new City is a better excuse than wanting to work in another group.

Plz tell if 22 is fair amount or below avg for 4+ yr exp in analytics domain.
Also plz share your work ex and company name if you got more with similar profile.

Indeed just blocked our company account job posting feature citing they found our company unsuitable for Indeed. We have been using Indeed for years now for free and paid job ads and always follow terms of use. They asked for a company document for verification purposes after they blocked us from posting. I provided Business Entity Detail, sales tax license, business and management indemnity policy declaration but they didn’t take them as valid proof. Have you dealt with anything like this?
