I was approached by a McKinsey recruiter last week and after a quick chat they scheduled me for a 30 minute pre-assessment call with a McKinsey alum. When asked how I should prepare for the pre-assessment the recruiter encouraged me to look into the case prep information on their website. 30 minutes sounds too short for an actual conversation and a case interview so I really don't know what to expect.

Does anyone actually know what the pre-assessment entails?

If an otherwise good interview the interviewer says: “I think you have great experience that will help you wherever you go”. Should I be reading into this?

I'm working on skills to reposition myself from a branch of tech where certifications are mandatory and required to even interview into DevOps or software development. I'm currently taking some online classes in Jenkins, docker, python. I've found a few certifications you can test for. I'd love to be able to go into a mid level position vs Jr in the next few years. A) Are these types of certs helpful or useless? B) what skills differentiate Jr and mid level positions?
